Quilting Project at LeConte Elementary School

In honor of African American Heritage Month

In preparation for the African American Heritage celebration at LeConte next month, the African American Quilt Guild of Oakland (AAQG) will come to LeConte to instruct 4th and 5th gradestudents and interested parents in quilt making and provide a historical perspective about the significance of quilt making in the African American Culture.

The AAQG will provide two workshops at LeConte Elementary School on January 13th and January 27th from 3pm to 5pm. Students and parents will make a quilt which will be shown during the African American Heritage celebration and remain on display at LeConte. On the back of the quilt there will be a fabric picture of the class so it has historical value.

TheAAQGwas formed in June of 2000. They educate the broader community about the historical significance of quilting in the African American culture and maintain the tradition through their on-going work and presentations.

 August 2011

Greetings LeConte families,

LeConte Community Kidz (LCK) is excited, as we get ready to open the doors for another great school year.  We hope that you had a wonderful summer break and are ready to come back to school.  This letter is to guide you through the registration process, dates to remember, and items that you will need to provide for registration.

LCK is an after school program that operates only when school is in session (refer to school calendar for dates off).  The program runs from school dismissal until 6:00pm.

The program is funded through a State grant and sliding scale parent fees, which are based on gross household income and number of residents in the home.  Full time enrollees will receive priority in registration.  Every effort will be made to accommodate parents seeking part time enrollment.  Please see the attached fee scale to determine your monthly fee.  Every household is obligated to volunteer 10 hours out of the school yearThese required hours will be explained at the orientation, which you must attend to register.

Step One: Registration Packet

Each family will need to pick up a registration packet to fill out prior to registration orientation.   Registration packets will be in the school office and LCK office available for pick up starting August 18th after 12:00pm.  All forms must be filled out entirely before returning packet.

Step Two: Providing Proof of Income
Each household will need to provide some type of proof of income, which includes a W4 form from last year or pay stub from each member of the household who is working or Cal-works form.

Step Three:  Registration Orientation
In order to register for LCK this year, you must attend a one-hour orientation/registration on August 23, 2010, August  24, 2010,  or August 25, 2010. You will need to bring your registration packet already filled out (highlight any questions you may have), proof of income, and a check, money order or cash for first and last month’s parent fee payment. Registration will be contingent on attending the orientation.

After the orientation, you will be able to register your child in the program with a full understanding of how LCK runs.  A schedule of Orientation Night is below.  Any household who does not attend the Orientation will have to schedule a 15 minute Late Registration Orientation with Charity in order for your child to start the program the first week of classes.

Schedule: LCK Orientation (Meet in the Auditorium)
5:00 Meet and Greet (light snack)
5:15 Orientation
6:00 Registration

YOU HAVE JUST VOLUNTEERED 2 HOURS OF YOUR TIME!!!

Please address any questions DURING orientation.  We look forward to a great year at LeConte Community Kidz!

Sincerely,

Charity DaMarto
