African American Heritage Celebration
This year's African American Heritage Celebration will be on Friday, February 24th, 2012, 5:30pm
Every year LeConte celebrates African American heritage with a celebration that includes great food, student performances, art, and music! There is also a raffle of a quilt that is made by LeConte families. Last year the raffle raised around $10,800 dollars for LeConte, minus $2,500 in expenses for the event, the total amount raised was around $8,250!
This year we were not able to coordinate the making of the quilt, so we will be raffling an iPad2, an iPod Touch, and a Kindle e-reader instead! Each ticket is $2, 3 for $5, or a 15 ticket pack for $20! Each student has received two initial packs of 15 tickets each. Please have your students sell as many tickets as they can! And if they need additional packs please ask Marie at the office.
Students who sell 100 tickets or more will get prizes such as LeConte t-shirts, sweat shirts, or gift cards from local bookshops or Taget. Top sellers will be recognized at the school assembly that morning.

We need help with the following prior to the event:
- African American Art Show: LeConte's wonderful art teacher, Lynn Zamarra, is educating our children in grades 1, 2, 4, & 5, on African American Artists and various artistic traditions, as well as having them make their own art projects which will be on display and up for judging. We need parents of Kindergarteners and 3rd graders to conduct the judging and parent volunteers from all grade levels to perform the installation of the students' projects in our school auditorium. The judging will take place on Thursday Feb 23, so awards can be presented to students the following day at the cultural celebration performance and potluck. - The number of tickets you are paying for. - 4. Please print a receipt for your records
- 5. Email a copy of receipt to the seller's parents so that it can be included in the student's packet and so the student can get credit, and also so that the seller can save your tickets.
